William Henry Lockyer, “Billy “as his sister Daisy called him, Bill to everyone else, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 78.

Bill was born in the community of Tack’s Beach on King Island, Newfoundland, Canada.  He often talked of catching lobsters, cod fishing, ice skating on frozen ponds and rowing the dory around the coves of the island. At the age of 13, when his mother was passing, Bill was sent to America to live with his sister in Waukegan, Illinois.  He spoke of the sorrow of realizing he would never see his mother alive again.  However, Bill was grateful to his sister Daisy and her husband Gill for continuing to raise him until he graduated from high school and joined the US Air Force.

While stationed at RAF Croughton in England, Bill met the love of his life, Mary Cummings Ross Fulton from Port Glasgow, Scotland, at a dance.  Bill waited until after the dance was over to introduce himself, as he did not know how to dance.  They agreed to talk on the phone the next day and Bill said he would call her from a certain telephone box at a particular time. However, he said his CO kept him busy and he was 30 minutes late calling.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who was hard working and loved to laugh. He leaves behind his son, Paul (Debbie) Lockyer; his daughter, Frances (Peter) Vaughn; sister, Verlie Green; brother, Baxter Lockyer; and grandchildren, Sarah (Adam) Hainline, Megan Eames, Heather (James) Maguire, Emma Vaughn and Isaac Vaughn.

Bill and Mary were married for over 50 years, and we are so grateful to have so many good memories to comfort us.  We will miss our father dearly as we do our mother.  God Bless You,” Mr. Lockyer”, for you were a good man!
