William H. “Bill” Haynes, Jr., 81, of Moberly, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at his home. He was born August 15, 1934, in Moberly to William Herschel and Mary Louise (Maxey) Haynes.

Bill was a lifelong Moberly resident, except for the four years he spent serving in the military. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 where he worked in the security division and then received an honorable discharge.

Bill graduated from Moberly High School, where he was involved in FFA and agricultural classes. He attained an associate degree from Moberly Junior College. He raised and showed sheep at the local fairs and also sheared sheep for many people in the community. His first job while in High school was as a caddy at the Moberly Country Club.

Prior to retirement, Bill worked as a switchman for the railroad and then later became a full-time farmer. After retiring from farming his interests focused on antiques and their restoration. He and his wife enjoyed attending many auctions to acquire inventory for Country Treasures Antique Shop.

Bill married Laurannah (Pontius) Kyser on April 3, 1983, in their family home in Moberly, MO and she survives in the home.

Also, surviving are his children, Shelly Jeane Haynes of Raymore, MO, Tammi Gayle Gittemeier and her husband Lynn of Jacksonville, MO, William Scott Haynes of Moberly, Julie Teresa Haynes of the State of Michigan, step-son, Alex C. Kyser of Carson City, Nevada, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two aunts, Norma Leavene and Maxine Davis, both of Moberly, brother-in-law, Dale Pontius and his wife Lois of Ridgeway, MO, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Margie Jeane Haynes.

Bill was a member of the Moberly First Christian Church and the American Legion. He really enjoyed traveling, in the military, the U.S., and the local countryside as well.

Bill and his wife enjoyed attending and chaperoning activities at Westran High School.
