William Vasco Gray, age 81 of Birmingham, AL, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Mr. Gray was a member of Primitive United Methodist Church in Fayetteville Tennessee. He was very active and exuberant man that was a member of the Huntsville’s Jaycees where he helped found the Huntsville fair and served as the Alabama State District President of the Jaycees. He later became an Alabama JCI Senator. William Gray was also a member of the East Lake Lion’s Club for 28 years where he once served as the president and started the East Lake Lion’s Club Oyster Supper. He graduated top 10 of his class in three years from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mr. Gray was a Korean veteran and a radio operator for the 24th Infantry Division. He was honored with three bronze service stars, an occupational metal from Japan, and a national defense service metal. William Gray was an electrical engineer as well as a local business owner of Center Point Wholesale Transmissions. He greatly enjoyed horse racing and his family. Mr. Gray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather “Big Daddy”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Earl Gray and Jesse Lee Gray. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Melba J. Gray; sons, Michael V. Gray (Mattie), Mark W. Gray (DeDe); grandchildren Adele, William, Emelie, Amanda (Justin); great granddaughter, Chloe; sisters, Martha Jean Vaughan, Emma Earlene Gordon (Jerry); and several other nieces and nephews.
