WINSTED –CALKINS – William G. Calkins, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Simons) Calkins for 66 years. Born February 22, 1925 in Winsted, CT; the son of the late Ernest “Pete” Calkins and Gladys (Cook) Calkins. He attended local schools and The University of Massachusetts. William served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Precision Ball in Winsted in 1990 and continued to work for the Winsted Recreation Department up until this year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William E. Calkins, Gary Calkins and wife Linda, Joan Farrell and husband Larry, Alan R. Calkins and wife Bernice and James Calkins; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Navin.
