William Francis Thompson, 81, of Avon Park, FL and formerly of Danbury and Rockville, passed away on Monday, December 9th at Saint Francis Hospital. Born in Shenandoah, PA, he was the son of the late Oscar Thompson and Vera Miscavage Strelecki. William lived in a Pennsylvania orphanage from age 3 to 12. At age twelve, he lived with his family on Waldo Street, Bronx, NY before serving in the U. S. Navy from 1949 until honorably discharged in 1953. William also lived with his wife and children in Washington, DC, Danbury and Rockville, CT. He was employed as a computer programmer for the State of CT in the Special Revenues Department, was a lifetime golfer and Red Sox fan and loved to read about science and astronomy. William is survived by his former wife, Agnes Thompson of Stonington; eight children, Jane Malone and her husband, Thomas of South Hadley, MA, Maryann Clappison and her husband, Robert of Portland, OR, Teresa Creamer of Montville, Susan Mathews of Niantic, William Joseph Thompson and his wife, Cherie of Cromwell, daughter, Ann Thompson Cahillane and her husband, Richard of Northampton, MA, Catherine Smith and her husband, Craig of Oklahoma City, OK, and Judith Albano-Thompson of Colchester and seventeen grandchildren, Leah Hill, Elizabeth Hill, Jacob Arzt, Jason Arzt, Gregory Creamer, Gloria Creamer, Corinne Mathews, Eric Mathews, Cassandra Thompson, Angela Thompson, Adrienne Thompson, Simon Thompson, Logan Smith, Landon Smith, Keeton Smith, Nicolette Albano, Quinn Thompson; eight cherished great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Along with his mother and father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph Strelecki; two brothers, Oscar (Joe) Thompson and John (Jack) Thompson and his younger sister, Maryann O’Brien.
