William F. Sanders, 89, lifelong resident of Ottawa, died Sunday morning, July 29, 2018 at his home.
Bill was born June 20, 1929 in Ottawa, to Harold and Louise (Bedford) Sanders. He graduated from Ottawa High School and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where he met his future wife, Joan Steinmetz, of South Bend, Indiana. They were married on August 8, 1953 in South Bend. Joan passed away on December 21, 2015.
Bill worked at the First National Bank of Ottawa for over forty years and served as its president from 1988 until he retired in 1994. He and Joan enjoyed traveling together and wintering in Florida and in the Palm Springs area in California.
Bill was a past member of the Reddick Library Board, Ottawa Avenue Cemetery Association, Ottawa Boat Club, the Elks Club, and many other organizations. He is survived by his sons, William B. (Jenny) Sanders and James H. (Kris) Sanders both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Joan.
