William Frederick Freeman Sr., 80, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 11, 2009. He was the loving and devoted husband of 61 years to Lessie Barham Freeman. Born in Norfolk, VA. Feb. 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Rev. Leon & Mable Freeman. He grew up in Norfolk receiving his education in the school system there, and as a young adult, moved his young family to New Haven 49 years ago. He retired from OLIN Corp. and from Southern Conn. State University. He was a wonderful and wise family man who loved to read. He had a great relationship with his grandchildren and has taught them many things, including how to build their own bicycles. They will always treasure the time they had with him. Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his children, Brenda Cochrane of San Diego, CA., Florene Spann & Rosetta Gattison, Damonne (Bill) Jones & Stephanie Freeman, all of New Haven and William F. (Lawanda) Freeman Jr. of Saginaw, Mich.; brothers, Melvin (Lee) Freeman of Fort Walton Beach, FL. Robert (Cora) Freeman of Norfolk, VA.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Freeman;19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Leon, Lawrence & Curtis Freeman; a sister, Jessie and a grandson, Samuel Spann.
