William F. Bodtmann, 99, of Middletown, passed away on January 28, 2022. William was born in Union City, NJ on December 26, 1922 to William H. and Josephine (nee: Bachmann) Bodtmann.
William worked for Bell Labs in Holmdel as an Engineer from age 18 until he retired at the age of 62. Amongst his many accomplishments was his extensive involvement in the development of the world’s very first active communication satellite, Telstar One. William proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1942 to 1944.
Activities that William participated in included the following; was a member of the Red Bank Elks Club, a volunteer with the Bell Labs Pioneers, which is a charitable organization providing disaster relief and assistance.
Bill was an active individual who loved ballroom dancing, sailing and gardening. A man who undertook any challenge that was presented to him and met with success. He embraced any new technology even into his late 90s.
William is preceded in death by Marjorie Lois Bodtmann, his wife of 64 years, his parents William H. and Josephine Bodtmann,
Surviving William are his three daughters; Lynda Santry and husband Thomas of Fair Haven, NJ, Cindy Boyer and husband David of Oceanport, NJ and Donna Giglio and husband Louis of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, his grandchildren Matthew Boyer, Amanda Boyer, Troy Santry, Kayla Santry and Michael Giglio and wife Alicia, and his niece Valerie Kuntz.
