COLEBROOK –NELSON – William E. Nelson, Jr., passed away October 13, 2016 at his home. He was the loving husband of Nora Joyce (Padgett) Nelson for 61 years. Born August 1, 1931 in Winsted; the son of the late William and Dorothy (Thompson) Nelson. Willie served in the U.S. Navy for four years where he met his wife in Washington D.C. He was very civic minded involved in the town of Colebrook as the Chairman of the Board of Tax Review, Chairman of the Board of Assessors, member of Board of Education, Justice of the Peace, Selectman and the Animal Control Officer for years. He also was a longtime member of the Colebrook Center Vol. Fire Dept., and helped construct their kitchen which is now the Senior Center. In addition to his devoted wife, he leaves his children, Cyndy Nelson of IN and Jeff Nelson of TN; two brothers, Russell Nelson and wife Claire of New Hartford and Daniel Nelson of West Hartland ; sister-in-law, Betty Trombley and husband Douglas of Newington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lois Arthur and Barbara Gahura. A heartfelt thank you to friends, Tom and Debi McKeon , Lorraine Washington, Heather Riess and Ella, Leo Asselin, and also the staff and doctors of Donna McHugh, MD, Richard Krinsky, MD, and the Winsted V.A.
