William “Bud” Diacont, Jr., formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed from this life on June 12, 2020. He was 93 years old.
William was born in Baltimore on March 11, 1927. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Diacont. Together, they raised two children, Kathleen and David. He is grandfather to three: John, Heather, and Renee, and great-grandfather to four.
As a young man, William served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during WWII.
William was a machinist by trade, but his life was distinguished by a love for learning and a steadfast commitment to family. His home was kept full of books and countless periodicals. He was a skilled artist and craftsman, always enamored with the latest technologies. He walked on his hands to entertain his grandchildren. He reveled in the outdoors, and in his retirement, spent many happy hours gardening, fishing, and watching over the neighborhood birds.
William never spared advice or opinion on matters that he was passionate about, and always encouraged lively conversation with great humor and song.
When remembering William Diacont, the words of one of his great heroes, Benjamin Franklin come to mind:
“If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing.”
He will be missed and remembered forever by all who knew him, and his influence will continue to be felt by all the lives he invariably touched in his time on this earth.
