William DeVone 77 passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at his home.

William “Slim” Davis DeVone was born on May 2, 1940 to the late Jerry and Lillie Mae DeVone. He had to leave school early to help his family on the farm. He came from a very large family, they were share croppers. His income was needed to help the family survive. William was a member of St. Mary’s Christ Church of Kenansville, NC. He was a trustee of the church and a man loved by many.

William was very instrumental in the recently upgraded air conditioner and heating system in the church, coordinating getting a new system to install it. William worked in the diesel engine mechanic field during his career; he was also a heavy equipment welder. He worked for Sam Mingo for 40 years, he loved working on tractors and his hobby was tractor pulling. He was well known in this sport in Maryland and North Carolina. William was preceded in death by his parents: Jerry and Lillie Mae DeVone, sons: William Kenneth Williams and Damon Diggs, brothers: James, Edward, Kenneth Ray, sisters; Thelma, Elma, Jane and Diane DeVone.

William leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 51 years; Rosalind Jordan of the home. Two daughters; Pamela (Arthur) Crockett of Newton Grove and Shelia Williams of Clinton. Two sisters; Jean Monk of Clinton, Betty Ingram of Clinton, Brothers; Jerry DeVone, Jr. (Maime) of Upper Malboro, Maryland, Bobby of Dunn, NC, Wade of Grantham, NC, John of Clinton, NC, Jimmy (Toni) of Benson, NC, Freddie of Smithfield, NC, George of Germany, Jackie (Shirley) of Newton Grove, NC three grandchildren; Andrea Williams of Clinton, NC, Jamar Williams of Clinton, NC, Haisha Williams of Clinton, NC, three great- grandchildren, special friend-like a brother; Bobby Troublefield. Many nieces and nephews.
