William Dale Cappella, 66, passed away October 2nd at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 29, 1952, the second son of the late Allen and Grace (Briggs) Cappella of Plymouth., was an exceptional athlete in baseball, football, and hockey. Bill led the Plymouth-Carver Blue Eagles to a 7 – 1 – 1 record senior year before graduating in 1970. He attended Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado on a football full scholarship. While playing in college, Bill became disenchanted with the dehumanizing aspects of the game, including the potential for lifetime injuries. Dismayed by a preference for rough treatment over skill, after college he chose a more peaceful path and walked away from a potentially successful professional career. Moving back home, Bill became Property Manager and Proprietor of Allendale Acres, the business name of the family farm. It was a position he would hold for another thirty years before selling the land to service-orientated businesses that benefit the community. He spent much of the last ten years traveling cross-country and spending time back in his second home, the American Southwest. Every step of the way through all the adventures, he was joined by his wife of forty years. Anyone who really knew Cappy knew his first love was music. An accomplished musician, he lived and sang the blues and was known for his virtuosity on guitar. Among the songs he wrote, was the theme for a baseball show seen nationally on the Sports Channel America in the 90’s. Every week Cap would croon out the words to It’s Just Forever Baseball Blues, a theme song heard coast to coast. Among his family and friends, especially that crew from the Class of ’70 he loved so much, Bill Cappella will be remembered as a kind and generous guy who opened his home all. His pool parties were as legendary as was his appetite for life. In the end, we were made better for having him with us, Vios Con Dios good buddy.
