William D. Campbell Jr. was born on July 2, 1927 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Lottie and William Campbell Sr. He departed life’s journey on March 10, 2016. William was educated in the Kentucky School System. Upon graduating from school, Mr. Campbell enlisted into the US Army. William served his country with pride and was honorably discharged as a veteran for his service.
Following his honorable release, he attended Fayetteville State University’s Teachers College. While there, he met and later married Mattie Lee Campbell. To this union two sons were born. Following graduation, William taught 4 th Grade in the Chicago Public Schools, where he retired after years of dedicated service. He returned to North Carolina with his wife enjoying retirement and the golden years. William was a kind-hearted man would give you the shirt off of his back. He loved life and loved loving people with women being at the top of the list. To top off his love for women, William’s favorite song was “Pretty Woman”. His favorite color was yellow and his favorite saying was “I’m alright but the world is all wrong”.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his loving wife Mattie Lee Campbell and his son Roland Campbell. Loving memories will forever be in the hearts and minds of one son, William E. Campbell, two daughter-in-laws: Lolita Campbell and Maureen Campbell; four grandchildren: Nickole Campbell, Reese Campbell, Ryan Campbell and Aron Campbell; three great-grandchildren: Niko Campbell, Chasye Campbell and Chris Campbell. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
