Camarillo – Dec. 8th 1947-April 22nd 2022
It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of my husband’s passing in Camarillo California. William C. McAtee was surrounded by his Family and love.
Chris was born in Bernalillo, New Mexico. He has a sister Debi and brother Dean. However, Chris was raised in Noble, Oklahoma where he worked the farm with his aunts & uncles. His grandpa & grandma owned land there and were part Cherokee.
Chris learned a lot from his grandpa; how to shoot, ride, hunt and how to survive. His Father relocated the family where he built homes in the early years of Simi Valley. By the end of Chris’s High School years, many men were being drafted.
He was a very smart man. The Army gave him numerous tests where he excelled. He told them he wanted to be in Special Forces.
Chris trained in Special Forces where he learned to shoot, became a Medic, and became an expert Demolition. He also learned to read, write & speak Vietnamese & German fluently. He loved being in Special Forces because he was good.
One Mission though, he & his team were shot down & he became a P.O.W. for 3 years. He & four others overtook the guards & finally escaped. He was wounded & ended up in Japan for two years where he had to learn how to walk again.
Chris & I (Cecilia A. Mcatee) have shared 30 years of beautiful memories filled with lots of Love & Laughter. He is Forever loved & forever missed!
