William “Chick” Wotring 87, of Arthurdale died Monday October 10, 2011. He was born September 10, 1924 in Aurora a son of the late George and Ada (Teets) Wotring. Mr. Wotring retired from the Preston County Board of Education in 1989 where he worked as a bus mechanic and Valley District bus driver for forty two years. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department for almost fifty years, he was awarded fireman of the year in 1998 by the Ladies Auxiliary. In 2006 he was chosen as King Fireman at the Preston County Buckwheat Festival. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking, making spinners, fly-tying, and driving the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department antique fire engine in local parades.

Survivors include: three daughters and spouses Rebecca and Robert Radabaugh of Arthurdale; Karen and Harold Swiger, Jr. of Rivesville; and Bonnie and Jackie Shrout of Arthurdale; he was affectionately known as “Pappy” to seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty nine years Pauline (Ashburn) Wotring in 2005; one brother; and eight sisters. He was the last member of his immediate family.
