William Chester Tong, 81, a lifelong resident of Canon City, passed away March 3, 2014, at the Bruce McCandless State Veterans Home. He was born July 11, 1932, in Canon City, CO to George and Francis (Oldaker) Tong. After graduating from Canon City High School, he joined the Army and served his country during the Korean War; receiving a Purple Heart. He married Ardis Jordan in 1956 and together they raised five children. William was a truck driver by trade and worked for Leprino Foods and Don Ward Trucking. He is survived by his wife Ardis; children, Patti (Mike) Ives, Pam (Tom) Swisher, Bill Tong, Laurie Martin; grandchildren, Mollie Gunkel, Corey Singer, Holly Kleven, Bryan Tong and Samantha Martin; great grandchildren, Quinn, Brooklyn and Karson; and sister, Ruth (Walter) Rodie. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bob Singer; and brother, Scott Oldaker. The family would like to thank the Bruce McCandless Veterans Home for the wonderful care they gave William.
