William C. “Bill” Fletcher, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Monday evening, June 27, at Elkhart General Hospital.
Bill was born March 26, 1948, in Winchester, to William F. and Mildred Irene (Curtis) Fletcher.
He married Cynthia A. Erdelyi on Oct. 19, 1968, in Elkhart.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Cindy A. Fletcher of Elkhart; son William A. “Bill” (Amanda) Fletcher of Noblesville; two loving grandchildren, Owen and Evan Fletcher at home; his father, William F. Fletcher of Elkhart; brother Michael Fletcher and sister Cheryl L. (Jody) Weiler of Bishop, Ga.; also surviving are two nieces and two nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Irene Fletcher.
Bill graduated from Jimtown High School in 1966. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War serving from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1971. Bill then went on to serve with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, achieving the rank of captain. Bill then worked for the Elkhart Police Department in administration and civilian rolls. He then worked at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s department in a civilian roll until his final retirement from there. Bill was a 32nd Degree member of the Masonic Lodge and a longtime member and past commander of DAV Chapter 19. He enjoyed living on the river, fishing and boating, but most important was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
