William (Bill) Troy Carey was born in Drew County, Arkansas on September 14, 1922. He moved to Florida in 1962, living in the North Western area and lastly calling Crestview his home.
Bill joined the Air Force in 1943. After graduation and a short employment in San Diego, he was shipped to the South Pacific and then to Iwo Jima serving during the height of World War II.
Later on, after VE and VJ Day at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C., he met and married his future wife, Belva (Peg). They were blessed with two beautiful children, Sandra and Bill Jr.
Bill was a sports enthusiast! He was the captain of his High School football team and while stationed at Bolling Field his commanding officer “drafted” him into playing on the Air Force’s first football team. After building the Air Force Academy in Colorado it was cancelled at Bolling.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Bill Jr. (Sonny).
The following poem entitled If You Could See Me Now, is one of many works written by his beloved wife Peg:
If you could see me now,
No words are formed to describe just how
I’m so delighted and wonderfully blessed
In my new home of happiness!
No more clouds to dim the view,
God’s lovely Son is shining through
In this magnificent place beyond the blue!
