William Theodore Hancock, age 85, of Lynwood, IL, passed away September 26, 2020 while in Hospice Care at the home of Dan and Suzanne Hancock in Valparaiso, IN.
William was born March 27, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Theodore and LaVerne Hancock.William enlisted into the Army in December of 1953 and received an Honorable Discharge in December of 1955.William married Carolyn Pearson on December 8, 1956 and started their life together with an apartment in Chicago, IL. After seeing their family grow with their first two children, they purchased a small home in Lansing, IL. After the birth of their third child, they bought a larger home in Lynwood, IL, eventually welcoming one last child into the family.William was employed at Youngstown Sheet and Tube which had several mergers over the years. William worked as a pipefitter and mechanic and retired with 42 years of service in the steel mill.William was a member of Glenwood Bible Church for much of his adult life, serving as a Deacon many times, and as a AWANA leader. Later in life, attended Village Church in Dyer, IN and became a member there.After a couple years of retirement William decided he missed a sense of belonging and needed something to do and extra spending cash for trips. So, in Michael Jordan style, he came out of retirement and took on a job at Walt’s Food Center in Crete, IL, stocking shelves 3-4 days a week. There he worked, another 15 years.William and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and took yearly trips with their family to Copps Cabins, Woodruff, WI; visiting Bill’s parents, Sarasota, FL; weekend excursions to Shipshewana, Covered Bridge Festival, and Fall trips to Orlando, FL with family.
William was preceded in death by his parents. William is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hancock, and children, Daniel and wife Suzanne, Debra (Faber) and husband Michael, Donald and wife Tammi and Douglas and wife Ronda, brother Richard and wife Judy, sister Nancy (Zander) and husband William, and sister Jean Scanlon.Grandchildren: Caitlin (Kyle) Kent, Morgan (Jesse) Henry, Ethan (Courtney) Hancock, Grant Hancock, Karasten Faber, Kimberly (Greg) Jones, Michael Jr Faber, Jonathan Faber, Katie (Thomas) Tanner, Kristen (Ron Jr.) Rottmann, Kandace (Brandt) Kiskurno, Kerianne Faber, Kendelle (Chase) Stillman, Kourtney Faber, Jake (Bri) Hancock, Mandi (Trent) Boeve, Joshua (Alyssa) Hancock, Demarie Hancock & Luke Hancock.Great Grandchildren: Tatum, Owen and Addison Jones, Maci, Haylie and Kenzie Rottman, Boaz Kiskurno, Rilynn, Oaklee and Bear Hancock, Mila Boeve, Tristian and Jacquelyn Colon & Dillion Hancock.
