William Bryan McCarthy, 67, of Winsted, CT, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 23, 2019. Bill was the son of the late Joseph and Shirley Reel McCarthy of Winsted. Bill was born on March 14, 1952 and lived in Norfolk, CT until the family moved to Winsted in was a graduate of Gilbert School, class of 1971 and he received an Associates degree in Graphic Design from Northwestern Connecticut Community College. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976; where he served on the USS Forrestal (CV-59) supercarrier. Bill worked in various capacities throughout his life. He enjoyed the social aspect of bartending and other work that brought him into the presence of his friends and community members. He loved reading books from a very early age and read anywhere from 50-100 books a year. Bill also enjoyed photography and had a camera with him most of the time so that he could take photos of nature, animals, family, and his hometown. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, James “Jimmy Mac” McCarthy, brother-in-law, Steve Ackley, and grandparents Joseph and Bridie McCarthy of Norfolk, CT. Bill is survived by his longtime companion, Marsha Lawton; his best friend Bill Sexauer; and siblings, Michael McCarthy & Val of McKeesport, PA; Eileen McCarthy Fitzgerald & Moe of Jensen Beach, FL; Maureen McCarthy-Magill & Tim of Bellbrook, OH; nieces and nephews Rista Malanca & Chris Palmer of Winsted; Kristin Malanca Sarcia & Carlos of Sandisfield, MA; Dana Jo McCarthy Webber & Alex; Bridie Lee McCarthy; Kyle James McCarthy all of Winsted; Michael L. McCarthy of Milwaukee ,WI; Matthew McCarthy of South Orange, NJ; Great nephews Lucas Holda and Mac James Webber, and many cousins, aunts and an uncle. Bill had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews, and they will miss him greatly.
