William “Bill” L. Arnold, age 79, of DeMotte, IN passed away Friday February 22, 2019 surrounded by his family at VNA Hospice Center of Valparaiso. Bill was born February 28, 1939 in Hammond, Indiana the son of Leonard V. and Mary E. (Miller) Arnold. He attended Hammond public schools, and graduated from Gary Wirt High School, Class of 1957.

It was at Gary Wirt where he met his lovely bride of almost 60 years, Margaret “Peggy” Kosky. They were married on June 27, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gary, IN. Bill worked in the oil refineries of Northwest Indiana for 8 years before joining the Gary, Indiana Police Dept where he worked for 20 years and retired as a Detective Sergeant. Upon retirement, he served as a Court Baliff for the Honorable J. Phillip McGraw and Honorable Patricia Riley in Jasper County, Indiana. He then served as the DeMotte Police Chief for 14 years, retiring in 2005. Bill was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church of DeMotte and a member of the F.O.P., Ben K. Perry Lodge #61, Gary, and proud friend of Bill W. for over 35 years. Bill served and protected his community with pride for 40 years.

He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, lifting weights and spending time with his family of whom he was very proud of. Bill is survived by his wife: Peggy Arnold of DeMotte, IN; children: Betsy (Clint) Chinn of Valparaiso, IN; Susan Arnold of DeMotte, IN; Robert W. (Kelli) Arnold of DeMotte, IN; 6 grandchildren; Rachel Toppen, Jillian (Jason) Kosiara, Eric (Heather Zeese) Toppen, Robert(Samantha Kemeny)Cuellar, Nicholas Arnold and Olivia Arnold. 8 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Alex and Meghan Krsak, Jackson, Blake and Allie Kosiara, Eleanora and Ellianna Toppen. sister: Marilyn Arnold; brother: Randy(Kathy) Arnold. Brother-in-law Ken Kosky, Sister-in-laws Katy (Tom) Teer, Janet (Scot) McCord. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Sarabelle. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, parent-in-laws and infant twin sons.
