William J. “Bill” McCormick, 78, of Galesburg, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 3, 1933 in Macomb, the son of William I. and Dorothy Mendenhall McCormick. He married Patricia A. Ross on October 2, 1959 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2010.
Bill is survived by son, Jim (Kelly) McCormick of Knoxville and grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) McCormick, Daniel McLaren, and Patrick and Sam McCormick; son, Michael (Jennifer) McCormick of Nebraska and grandchildren, Annaka, Ethan, Alaina, and Remington McCormick; and son, Steve (Tina) McCormick of Galesburg and grandson, Dhane McCormick; and a brother, Bobby G. (Thelma) McCormick of Macomb. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
Bill was a welder at Butler Manufacturing for 41 ½ years, retiring in 1993. He graduated from Macomb High School. He was a member of the Parkview Seventh-day Adventist Church. Bill enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and was an avid collector. Bill served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
