William (Bill) Beattie age 86 of Ashland, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday September 26, 2010. Born in Ruggles Township on October 30, 1923 the son of Wilson H. and Jeanette (Klauer) Beattie he was an Ashland County Resident all of his life.
Mr. Beattie was the owner of Beattie Trucking, hauling livestock and water. He was also a mail carrier and a farmer. Mr. Beattie was also the owner of Beattie’s IGA.
On February 10, 2001 Mr. Beattie was married to Louise (Fluke) Conery who survives.
In addition to his wife Louise, Mr. Beattie is survived by four children and their spouses. James (Rebecca) Beattie of Ruggles, Sandy (Ted) Turk of Hayesville, Linda Knee of Hayesville and Donald (Dreama) Beattie of Ruggles. One sister, Ruth Beattie of Ruggles and twelve grandchildren also survive, Kimberly (Dan) McQuate, Matthew (Rachael) Beattie, Stephen (Sarah) Beattie, Stephanie (Jason) Nichols, Stacy (Jeremiah) Johnson, Travis (Amy) Turk, Michael Hensel, Daniel (Michelle) Hensel, Amy (Nicholas) Monitello, Douglas (Danica) Beattie, Dustin (Missy) Beattie and Devon Beattie. Twenty four great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Beattie is preceded in death by his first wife Miriam in 1999, Granddaughter Sue Ann Beattie and one son in law, Rex Knee.
Mr. Beattie was a graduate of Ruggles High School and was a veteran of the United States Army serving two years with the occupied forces in Germany. He is also a member of the American Legion, Post 88
He was also a member of the Christ Community Evangelical Free Church in Bailey Lakes.
Mr. Beattie spent most of his life farming in Ruggles Township and later in the rural Ashland area. For many years he transported livestock from farms to market and trucked many 4-H animals to and from the Ashland County Fair. In addition he hauled water for swimming pools and cisterns.
