William "Bill" Childers

William (Bill) Childers, age 86, of Blountstown, Fla.  passed away on Friday, February 15, 2022 at Westwood Rehabilitation Center of Ft. Walton Beach FL.  His wife, and love of his life for over 60 years, Melba J. Childers, preceded him in death.

William is survived by his son Timothy Childers of Blountstown, Fla., daughter and son-in-law, Myra & Jon Tropsa of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter and son-in law Melissa & Paul Stankard of Pace, Fla; three grandchildren Christopher O’Neal of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; Mikayla Donlan and Bree Stankard of Pace, Fla., and two great grandchildren, Jackson O’Neal of Marietta, Ga., and Jacobi Guthrie of Pensacola, Fla.  

Bill proudly served his country in the Korean War as a United States Marine. He went on to work and retired from Monsanto in Pensacola, then he bought and operated Peaden’s Appliance Store in Crestview, Fla. and ran it for many years. 

Bill and his wife, Melba, retired to Blountstown, Fla., where he could enjoy his favorite past-time, fishing.  Bill spent many hours on the Chipola River and loved sharing his fishing stories with all.  Bill moved to Ft. Walton Beach in December 2017, to live at Brookdale Asst. Living and be closer to family.  He quickly became the Bingo Champion and enjoyed trips to the Casino’s. He also quickly became a favorite of the staff.

 Bill will be very missed by all those he touched, especially his children. He left a mark on everyone he met and was a friend to all. He had a long and wonderful life. A better man never lived.
