For over 98 years, Bill Jackson lived an exemplary life molded by his adherence to the principles that he found in his practice of Freemasonry. He had recently been awarded a tribute for 75 years as a member of Bingham Lodge #53. Brotherly love, relief, truth, fortitude, prudence, temperance, and justice were the bedrock of his life.
He was born in southern Coweta County on the family farm on the Luthersville Highway outside of Moreland in the St. Charles community. He was one of six children born to the late William Ishmael and Myrtie Kate Brock Jackson. His siblings, Ralph Jackson, Leroy Jackson, Katherine Norman, Doris Head, and Francis Reid also predeceased him. Bill was the dedicated husband of his wife Nevelle Morris Jackson until her death in 2001. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Cherry Jackson Harmon. Bill enlisted in the Army in 1943 during World War II He saw service in England and France during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from the war, he continued his military experience as one of the initial members of the local National Guard unit. He was also associated with The Loyal Order of the Elks. Many locals will remember Bill as the owner and operator of Jackson Seafood on Temple Avenue in Newnan. He is survived by his daughters Jane Ray of Newnan; Jill (and Jerry) Sherman of Palmetto. His grandchildren are Tammy Cook, Ricky Ronig, Scott Ronig, Christy Sherman, Shane Sherman, Samantha Harmon, Lana Blount, and Pam Durham. There are 28 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
