William B. Curry, Jr., age 67, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Sunday morning, July 15, 2018, in the comfort of his family’s presence in Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born October 14, 1950, in Dowagiac, Michigan, the third child of William and Reva Mae Curry, Sr.

He married Patricia Louise Harris on September 8, 1990, in Cassopolis, Michigan. She survives.

William served proudly and honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He served in Vietnam and once served as an honor guard for then President Nixon. He was a member of the Marine Riders and was proud of his vintage Honda Gold Wing. William was over the top involved with his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was once given an award for being the loudest fan at any of the events. Though he loved Michigan, his favorite team was Michigan and anyone who beat Notre Dame. He loved the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. William and his wife would play the “Corvette Mine O’ Mine” game as they would drive somewhere. Patricia usually won, although the family thinks he let her.

William served the Village of Cassopolis in a variety of capacities, including serving on the Village Council, tending the local cemetery, and working as a crossing guard for the elementary school. He was a member of the Church of Cassopolis and served as a Deacon for over twenty years. When asked how he was doing, he would respond that he was “blessed and highly favored.” No one could give William a deadline. He did what he wanted when he wanted, how he wanted. Even when the doctor gave him less than a day to live, William waited three more days and passed Sunday morning. He “signed off” at the same time as when he would have set foot in a church.

William will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of almost twenty-eight years, Patricia Curry of Cassopolis; two daughters, Doreen (LaMonte’) Joiner of Cassopolis, Anastasia Anderson of Niles; four sons, Rob (Lindsay) Anderson of Elkhart, Ben (Jenna) Anderson of Cassopolis, Anthony Curry of St. Louis, Missouri, Trenton (Stacey) Gless of Vandalia; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Gregory Curry of Dowagiac; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William B. Curry III; four grandchildren; and his twin sisters, Charon Buck and Charlene Frazier.
