William Anthony Byatt, age 65, of Cedar Crest, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Tony, as friends knew him, was predeceased by his father, William J. Byatt. He left behind his wife, Leslie Pimentel Byatt; his sons, William Joshua Byatt, and Robert Pimentel Byatt; his mother, Evelyn Ballantine, and two brothers, Michael Byatt, and Paul Byatt.

Tony was loved by many and was happily a friend, brother, mentor, and father figure to those that wanted or needed guidance. Tony was a competitive cyclist, who in September of 2022 earned a bronze medal in the UCI Track World Championships. He was an adventurer who loved bicycles, motorcycles, rock climbing, sports cars, and the magic of the outdoors.

Most importantly, Tony was an amazing husband and father. He loved his family with a fierceness like no other. With his boys, he climbed mountains, paddled swamps, hiked valleys, and fished oceans. From his bookshelves they read Orwell, Rousseau, Nietzsche, Marx, and Huxley; Cervantes, Shakespeare, Dumas, and Homer; Stephen King and John Grisham and JRR Tolkein. He taught them to take derivatives and memorize trig identities. They thought they had decades left. But they didn’t. Although they did not learn everything they needed or wanted to learn from him, they learned how to learn the rest.

Tony’s family and friends gathered to celebrate his life on October 29, 2022.
