Willetta J. Shannon, 97, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.
She was born January 4, 1911, in Paynesville, MO., the daughter of John Dorsey and Elizabeth Frazier Smith. She first married James Turner and he preceded her in death, and later married Benjamin Shannon and he also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, James (wife, Willie) Turner of Jacksonville and one daughter, Nancy Colvard of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Berneice Turner; one grandson, Ronald Eugene Turner; one granddaughter, Cynthia Williams; two brothers, James and Charles Smith; and one sister, Betty Lee Dixon.
Mrs. Shannon was a member of Mt. Emory Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Her church and her family were her life.
