Willard D. Yeakel, 87, Anderson, died February 25, 2006 at St. John’s Health System after an extended illness. He was born in Northampton, Pennsylvania, and resided in Anderson, Indiana. He moved to Anderson from Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1950. Mr. Yeakel was an elementary school teacher having taught in Chesterfield and Anderson Community Schools until his retirement in 1978.
He was a graduate of Anderson College and Ball State University. He served his country for 4 years in the Air Force during WWII. He was an aircraft welder in the South Pacific. He attended New Horizons United Methodist Church. After retirement, he became an avid woodworker and was noted for his quality workmanship.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Harriger Yeakel; sister, Elizabeth Busse and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Mae Nichols Yeakel; brothers, Delbert, Harold Jr and Carl and sister, Caroline Fenner.
