Wilbur T. Cochran, 85, of New Buffalo, Michigan , died Tuesday morning. January 10, 2006, at LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, Indiana.
Wilbur was born November 14, 1920, in Danville, Illinois to Onnie and Ida (Williams) Cochran. He graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City, Indiana and served his country in the US Army 759th Railway Battalion in Africa, Italy, France and Germany during WWII. On November 8, 1947, he married Marie “Rita” Zak in New Buffalo, she preceded him in death on August 15, 2003.
Wilbur was employed as a Forman in the Powerhouse at Pullman Standard, Michigan City, Indiana, and for 15 years was employed with the Michigan City Water Department. He loved to travel and was a member of the Blossomland Camping Club. Wilbur was a member of St. Mary of the Lake church in New Buffalo. He enjoyed playing pinochle at the River Valley Senior Center and enjoyed taking his Scottie, Oliver, on walks.
Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Cochran of New Buffalo, Rita Cochran of New Buffalo, and Kathleen (Dennis) Bryll of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Alexander Bryll, Benjamin Bryll and Abigail Bryll; sisters, Irene (Arthur) Sommerville of South Carolina and Maxine McCullogh of Florida, and his brother, Onnie (Faye) Cochran of California.
His grandson, Andrew, preceded him in death on September 23, 1999.
