Wilbur H. Kunzeman, 90, of Springfield and formerly of Meredosia, died September 26, 2011, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
He was born Feb. 16, 1921, near Meredosia, the son of Jesse Edward and Lydia Korsmeyer Kunzeman. He married Betty A. Bennett on Jan. 27, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, John (Karla) Kunzeman of Springfield and Steve (LouAnn) Kunzeman of Glenarm; five grandchildren, Kim (Uton) Dellosso, Mimi Kunzeman, Mitch Kunzeman, Brian (Amanda) Kunzeman and Andy (Jennifer) Kunzeman; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett and Lucy Dellosso, and Jonathan and Grace Kunzeman; and one brother, Edward J. (Rose) Kunzeman of Alsey. He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Kunzeman (surviving wife Nancy of Meredosia).
Mr. Kunzeman was a 1939 graduate of Meredosia High School. After graduation he began work for AB Chrisman Grain in Meredosia. In September of 1942 he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the 28th Station Hospital in the European Theatre for the duration of World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to work for AB Chrisman. He retired from the grain elevator and began work at Farmers and Traders State Bank in Meredosia. Following that he became a grain inspector for Springfield Grain Inspection. He was a lifetime and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
