Wilbert [Bill] Chiasson, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Merritt Island, FL. Bill is survived by Naomi, his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary (Dennis) Foster and Janet (Gary) Nickloy of Rockledge, Mike (Louisa) Chiasson of Indianapolis, and Judy Chiasson of Los Angeles. Bill was blessed with ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who brought him much joy.
Bill was an electrical engineer. He loved the Cape Canaveral launches and would proudly share stories about his many years designing specialized welding technology. Bill and Naomi retired to Merritt Island 25 years ago. Every day they reveled in watching the sun setting on the river, the dolphins frolicking in the water, and Bill’s beloved birds that flocked to his feeders.
Bill and Naomi loved to dance. On Friday nights you could find them clicking their heels at the Moose Lodge. They liked disco, big band and zydeco music. Bill performed locally as a member of the Gold Diggers tap dancing troupe. He danced at the weddings of all his children and grandchildren. He was a man of faith, and volunteered tirelessly in efforts to fund scholarships for children to receive a Catholic education.
There were no strangers in Bill’s life — only new friends that hadn’t yet met. He was affectionately known as the Candy Man because he always had chocolates and a smile to share to sweeten the lives to those he met.
Bill’s secret to a happy life and happy marriage, was “It’s all about love; just keep loving each other.
