West Ervin Debow was born on October 8, 1951, in Anniston, Missouri to his parents, West Debow and Victoria Debow. He was the fourth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his sisters, Luvechia, Forestine and Mable. As a child, he loved playing basketball, dancing and he made friends easily. West received his formal education in Missouri, where he graduated from Hirsh High School on June 27, 1970. He furthered his education by attending the Olne Harvey College. On March 4, 1971, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving his country, he was stationed in Colorado, Texas, and Missouri.
