Wendel Gunning, 77, of Maplewood, NJ, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. Wendel was born and raised in Newark, NJ and most recently lived at Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, NJ.
He served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960 aboard the USS Rochester, the Flag Ship for the Pacific Fleet, stationed in San Diego, California and Osaka, Japan. After Wendel’s tour of duty in the Navy, he became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 68. He was employed at Pabst Brewery in Newark, New Jersey, as well as, Prudential in Florham Park, NJ. He was part owner of TUCS Janitorial Services located in Orange, NJ. Wendel owned New Orleans Seafood Processing Company in New Orleans, Louisiana which was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his four children, Colleen Beckett, Susan McGinley, William Gunning, Joan Molloy, his adored grandchildren Alexander and Catherine Beckett, Grace, Liam, Charlotte, Finnigan McGinley, and his loving sister Patricia Sweeney and husband John. Liam Gunning, Logan and Madeline Molloy. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Joan Gunning. Wendel was predeceased by his grandson Owen Molloy at 11 months old.
