Weldon Hardwick Cardin, 82
Okeechobee – Weldon Hardwick Cardin age 82, husband, great father, “paw paw”, and friend, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2021, after a brief illness. Weldon was known for his undying love for his family, unfailing sense of right and wrong, and witty sense of humor.
Weldon was a “Florida Cracker” through and through. He was born and raised in Pahokee, Florida, and spent 51 years as an Indiantown resident. He was a supervisor with the U.S.D.A Sugarcane Field Station in Canal Point, Florida where he worked to develop many of the “CP” varieties of cane grown today. After retirement from the U.S.D.A, he was a technician for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft.
He was also a veteran and very proud of his military service. He was one of those unique individuals who could build you a house solely with a “piece of wire”. He loved to tinker and analyze anything mechanical. He loved to speck fish and spent many hours on Lake Okeechobee. Some of his best memories were spending time with his son building swamp buggies and hunting. His greatest love though was his family.
He sacrificed much to provide a better life for them. He always made sure his granddaughters had plenty of “candy money”. He loved to regale his family with stories of growing up around “cat alley”, playing fullback at Pahokee High School, and drag racing his ’56 Chevy convertible “out by the Streamline”. He found great joy in spending time with his high school classmates from Pahokee High School and just recently returned from their 2021 reunion.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Barbara Kersey Cardin; son, Brian; daughter-in-law, Ellen; two granddaughters, Emily Cardin Brewer (Michael) and Kathryn Cardin Curtis (Dustin); and two sisters, Linda Cardin Bussell and Sandra Cardin Prokurat.
