Wayne T. Hansen, 84, of Algona, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2015 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Wayne was born on January 23, 1931, in Vail, IA, the first-born son and third child of Thomas and Theresa (Olbertz) Hansen. He attended school in Superior, IA and Jackson, MN. On August 20, 1951, Wayne was united in marriage to JoAnne Booton in Canton, SD. Following their marriage, Wayne and Jo settled in Spirit Lake, where he was employed by Dickinson County. In the mid-50’s, Wayne and Jo moved to Algona where they resided the remainder of their lives. Wayne and Jo lived and worked in Hawaii for one year in the early 1970’s. Wayne’s dream of owning his own company became a reality in 1972 when Wayne T. Hansen Construction Company was formed. The most recent site was purchased in 1976 at 2200 River Road.

Wayne always maintained a passion for his work and operating “Cat” equipment. He enjoyed traveling, attending Caterpillar shows and conventions, playing games of chance at casinos and playing cards and cribbage. He treasured his early morning gatherings and developed lasting friendships with the “four-corner Chrome family”. Wayne will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and quick wit. His straight forward demeanor left no questions as to where you stood on how he felt about you.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Cindy Hansen of The Villages, FL; his son, Robert “Bob” Hansen of Arnolds Park, IA; Lynne Sims-Taylor; LuJean Welander; Brandon Welander; Trent Welander and his wife Jessica; and his sister, Delores Sykes of Indianola, IA. He is preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne in 2007; his parents, Tom and Theresa Hansen; his sister, Velma Netsch; and his two brothers, Roger and Clifford Hansen.
