Wayne Lavrenz, age 64, of Burt died on Monday June 15, 2015 at Mercy of North Iowa in Mason City. Wayne Albert Lavrenz, son of Richard and Lillian (Bredeson) Lavrenz, was born on January 25, 1951 in Algona, Iowa.
He graduated from Burt High School in 1969. After high school Wayne attended Waldorf College until he was drafted during the Vietnam War. Wayne served in the United States Army from February 3, 1971 until his discharge on February 2, 1974. On August 17, 1973, Wayne was united in marriage to Rebecca Kruse in Burt, Iowa. After he was discharged, Wayne attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota where he was a starting defensive end for their football team. Throughout his life he worked hard using his leadership skills and love for people in various management, sales and owner positions while residing in Omaha, NE and Colorado Springs, CO.
Wayne used his athletic gifting to excel in baseball, basketball and football in his younger years and later traveled extensively playing softball. He had a gift for seeing the potential in others and expressed it through his many years of coaching young men on the baseball and football fields. When he wasn’t working hard or coaching he loved being around children and watching the Minnesota Twins. Wayne attended Charis Bible College in Colorado and graduated in 1998.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Wayne is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rebecca of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his children Michael (Courtney) Lavrenz and their children Michael Jr., Hunter, Karis and Savanah of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nathan (Lindsey) and their children Westen and McGwire of Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Lavrenz of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Laura Lavrenz of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brother Harold (Diane) Lavrenz of Burt and his sister Ann (Duane) Heyes of Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents.
