Mr. Kimball died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE.
Wayne was born on March 17, 1929, in Norfolk, the son of Charles and Mary (Slama) Kimball. He graduated from Norfolk High School in 1947.
On August 15, 1947, Wayne entered the US Navy. He served in Japan, the Philippines and Korea. Wayne was an electrician in the Navy. He earned his honorable discharge on August 13, 1951.
Following his service, he returned to Norfolk. On June 28, 1953, Wayne married Marie Caroline Scheffler at the Church of Christ in Norfolk. Wayne built their first residence, where they lived for 40 years. Their union was blessed with four children and 61 years together.
Wayne was employed by the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad as a track welder. He retired after 38 years of service.
He loved to fish, hunt and work in his garden. He especially enjoyed bowling. Wayne also worked at Riviera Raceway and raced until Marie made him retire from racing after he won a rollover trophy.
Wayne was a longtime member at First Christian. For several years, he served as a deacon. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 61 years; their childrenBruce Kimball, of Norfolk, Karen and husband Bert Eisenbraun, of Norfolk, Susan Kimball, of Denver, and Terry Kimball of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
