Warren Warner Corbit, 81, a lifelong resident of Cassopolis, died peacefully, Monday, May 12, 2014 in Forest Glen of Dowagiac.Warren was born February 8, 1933 to John and Frances (French) Corbit. He married Dorothy Susette Verburg October 4, 1952 in Cassopolis. She preceded him in death July 25, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rick Warren Corbit, one sister, Lorraine Burmeister, and one brother, Johnny Corbit.Warren served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Also known as “Squat,” he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, especially doting on his grandchildren. His daughters call him the hardest working man they had ever seen.
He worked since third grade, including a paper route and setting pins at the bowling alley. Squat was a great athlete and was a local high school basketball star. An avid woodworker, he made several things for each of his daughters. He read every Louis L’Amour novel several times.Warren will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Suzette Corbit of Traverse City, Janet L. “Janae” Cooper of Cassopolis, Tracy (Dennis Krupp) Wall of Cassopolis; eight grandchildren; Heather (Pat) Harding of Dowagiac, Amber (Nick) Fryman of Decatur, Mariah Wall of Ann Arbor, Skylar Wall of Cassopolis, Brandon (Jaime) Cooper of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Erika (Jason) Smith of Cassopolis, Andrea (Victor Torres-Velez) Torres-Cooper of Montclair, New Jersey, Lucas (Megan) Cooper of Portage, Michigan; twelve great grandchildren; uncle Jack (Ida) Corbit of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
