Warren Lee Jones, age 87, of Chaison 23.5 Road in Gladstone, died on April 9, 2017, at his home following a battle with cancer.

 

He was born March 2, 1930 in Escanaba, son of William H. and Flora (Lee) Jones.  He married Barbara Mae Davis on April 8, 1950 in Escanaba and she preceded him in death in February 2014.

 

During the 1950’s, Warren worked for Marble Arms, in Gladstone, and played on the Marble Arms softball team.  He was later employed as a millwright by Eaton Corporation, in Gladstone for more than 20 years, until a disability forced his retirement.

 

In his later years, Warren became known as a carpenter, builder, woodworker, small-engine repairman, and an owner and maintainer of hunting camps.  For more than 40 years, he was known to the local CB-radio listeners as “Grizzly”.

 

He is survived by one son, Andrew of Escanaba; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; at least two great great grandchildren; one brother, William E. (Joyce) Jones of Gladstone; one sister, Carol King of Escanaba; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends, including Dawn, a former daughter in law, who became an especially close friend in his final years.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, one granddaughter, one brother and four sisters.
