Warren E. Zettle, 80, of Freeport died Tuesday April 10, 2012 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born May 29, 1931 he was the son of Guy and Maggie Zettle. On November 14, 1953 he and Bonnie Mani were united in marriage in Winslow, Illinois. For 16 yrs. Warren drove livestock truck for Colbert Trucking in Shannon, then for Newell Companies until retiring in 1993. He and grandson Aaron then worked together in their own lawn mowing business up until just last year.

He garnered many friendships while he and wife Bonnie were raising their family in Shannon and made many more after moving to Freeport. Many knew him as “Zeke”, but other favorite names of his were husband, father, grandfather and friend. Warren never sat still; always finding something to keep himself busy or looking to help everyone. He was a jack-of-all trades and could fix just about anything that broke. He loved talking to people and is best known for his sense of humor. He never failed to bring a smile to your face.

He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ and the Freeport Eagles Club. He was also a long time member at Winneshiek Theater. Warren’s presence will never be forgotten as he touched so many among his family and friends. He will be known forever as a kind, loving, loyal, dedicated and hardworking man.

Surviving are his wife Bonnie of Freeport; children Terry Zettle of Montgomery, Denise (Rick) Buss of Freeport; grandchildren Aaron (Christina) Buss of Cherry Valley, Erica Buss of Montgomery, Colin and Tom Zettle both of Lisle; one great granddaughter Leigha Buss and two step- great-grandchildren Alyssa and Brittney and many lifelong friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Elwyn, three sisters Esther, Grace and Catherine.
