Warren D. Lakamp, 86, of rural Jacksonville, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Jacksonville, the son of Fred and Anna Nergenah Lakamp. He married Phyllis J. Goodall on Feb. 24, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Chapin and she preceded him in death on Apr. 11, 2010.
He is survived by his son, Roger (wife, Mary) Lakamp of Chapin; his daughter, Cindy (husband, Gerry) Gotschall of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Brian (wife, Susie) Gotschall of St. Louis, Mariah (husband, Joe) Faivre of Edelstein, Gus (wife, Kelsey) Lakamp of Des Plaines and Wes Gotschall of Ballwin, MO; two great-granddaughters, Emelyn and Anna Faivre; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Rahe (surviving husband, Vernon of Bluffs).
Mr. Lakamp was a 1944 graduate of Chapin High School and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1945-1946. He was a former leader of the Victory Ag 4-H Club and volunteered many years at the Morgan County Fair. He was a member of the Chapin American Legion, Western Illinois Tractor Club, Tri-County Shorthorn Association and was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Warren farmed and raised purebred Shorthorn Cattle on the family centennial farm. He had the privilege to go on a Land of Lincoln Honor Flight for WWII veterans in June of 2011.
