Waneta Grimes, age 92, passed away peacefully on 10/13/15. She lived in the Niceville area since the mid 1970’s. Born Waneta Maxine Dawson, daughter of coal miner Howard Dawson, Waneta was the eldest of ten children (Gene, Lois, Evelyn, Doris, June, Joan, Alta, Patricia, and George).
From her marriage to Allen W. Carlson, she gained five sons: Dennis, Jim, Ted, Peter, and Kurt. Her second marriage to Daniel D. Grimes added five step children: Peggy, Pat, Mary, Tim, and Jenny. Together they had one child, Elizabeth.
Because both husbands were Air Force Officers, Waneta traveled throughout the United States (Texas, Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina, Illinois) and overseas (England, Germany, and the Panama Canal). She finally retired in the Niceville area. Besides being a devoted mother, Waneta was an avid artist and enjoyed collecting antiques.
