Wanda Lucas, 88, of Virginia, IL died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
She was born June 17, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Roman and Mary Zieleskiewicz. She married Thomas J. Lucas on December 12, 1959 and he preceded in death on March 3, 2007.
She is survived by three sons, Nick K. Lucas (Debbie) of Edmond, OK, David T. Lucas (Mary Ann) of Virginia, and Tommy Lucas (Edna) of Verdunville, WV; three daughters, Toni-Lee Zanoli of Lynnfield, MA, Kathy Markocki of Wauconda, and Loretta Tackett (Arson) of Harts, WV; a sister, Lillian Paluch (Leonard) of Plainfield; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lillette Irizarry; and eight siblings, Bernard, John, Stephan, Larry, Walter, Edwin, Leonard, and Sophie.
She served from 1943-45 with the US Army Air Force during WW II. She received her basic training at Oglethorpe, GA and was stationed at Ft. Knox, KY, Selfridge Field, MI, McClellan Field, TX, and Sheppard Field, TX. She was a member of AACS (Army Air Force Communication System Association), WAF (Women’s Air Force Association), Women’s Memorial Foundation, and American Legion Post 279 in Jacksonville. She was also a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia.
