Wanda June Lent, Nov. 1, 1937 – Sept. 17, 2021, formerly of Oglesby, passed away in Sterling at the age of 83. Wanda was born and raised in Medina, Ohio, daughter of Wendell and Neva Thompson. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the Sherwood School of Music, Chicago.

Upon graduation, she moved to LaSalle and taught K-8 general music, choir and band for 34 years. She also taught private voice, piano and organ lessons for about 55 years.

She played and sang for many weddings and funerals and was church organist for 50 years at the LaSalle First Congregational United Church of Christ. Wanda married Herbert “Jack” Lent on June 12, 1965, he passed in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Max in his youth. Survivors include her daughter, Denise (Todd) Ewers of Milledgeville and granddaughters, Deidre of Naperville and Josie of Oconomowoc WI.

Wanda would rarely go anywhere in the Illinois Valley area without someone saying, “Hi Mrs. Lent, remember me? I was one of your students!” She was very active in the community in many clubs and organizations. She lived for going to plays and musicals, Wrigley Field as an avid Cubs fan, and just about every single concert, dance recital, contest, game, musical, etc. that her daughter and granddaughters were involved in, always culminating in a delicious dinner, or at least dessert! She lived life to the fullest, and is now at God’s right hand playing the organ and singing beautifully in the choir.
