PLAINVILLE; Mr. Walter Smykla 91, of Plainville passed away Thursday morning June 14, 2012 at the Jerome Home in New Britain. He was the husband of the late Irene (Alexsiewicz) Smykla who passed away in 2003.

Mr. Smykla was born March 22, 1921 in Plainville, a son of the late John and Rose Smykla. Along with his brother Stanley, he was the owner of Plainville Autobody for over 50 years. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Irene and their many friends and spent many hours adding to his coin collection. He always looked forward to going to J. Timothy’s and meeting with his friends and sharing a few laughs with them. He was also an avid sports fan. In his younger years he raced stock cars at Plainville Stadium. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Mr.

He is survived by his devoted daughters and their spouses, Ondrea Chasse and her husband John of Plainville, Carol Thomas and her husband Bob of Milford and his son Walter. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jordan Chasse of Plainville, Christine (Chasse) Napierski and her husband Benjamin of Canton, Walter and Gabriel Smykla of Plainville and Ricky, Hunter and Alex Thomas of Milford, his great grandchildren, Cole, Carson and Colin Napierski and Molly his  cat. Walter’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Ian Akins for his companionship and all the kindness he showed to Walter over the years. Walter was predeceased by his brothers Stanley and Joseph Smykla and his sister Ann Pahootsky
