Passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at the age of 85. Walter was born March 6, 1932 in Sandwich, IL to the late John and Olive (Cook) Francis. Walter was united in marriage to Marjorie Johnson on June 13, 1953. He was a longtime member of Berean Baptist Church.

Walter was a Chaplain/Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army Reserves from which he retired after 33 years of service. He pastored churches in Laporte, MN, Centerville, MI and was an associate pastor in Plainwell, MI and the calling pastor in Kalamazoo, MI. Starting in 1960 he taught at Parchment Public Schools in both the high and middle schools until 1982. After retirement from Parchment Public Schools, he served as Chaplain for Borgess Hospital for over a decade.

Walter is survived by his wife, Marjorie Francis; children, Deborah Joy-Francis Holman (Mark) and Joel Francis (fiancé Diana Smith); 4 grandchildren, Rebekah Holman, Carl Holman, Elizabeth Francis, and Sarah Milam; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his siblings, John (Jack) Francis, Paul Francis, David Francis, Haldene Francis and Marian Francis.
