Walter Lee Pete Yancy, 79 years, of Philadelphia, IL died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1929 in Philadelphia, the son of Clarence and Edith Black Yancy. He married Emma Rose Sherren on January 5, 1962, in Virginia, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Clara Ellen Patton (husband, John) of Manteca, CA; two stepgranddaughters, Kelly Elizabeth Simmons and Vanessa Anderson (husband, Gary), all of California; two brothers, Oliver Yancy of Nevada and Charlie Yancy (wife, Donna) of Auburn; four sisters, Helen Anderson of Medford, OR, Dorothy Woods of Jacksonville, Lela Tenbusch of Springfield, and Shirley Lyons (husband, Bob) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Sherwood, Robert, and Lyle Yancy, and two sisters, Viola Matthews and Hester Pettit.
Mr. Yancy was a graduate of Virginia High School and served six years with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He farmed five years for Armour Adkins, worked 20 years at Oscar Meyer in Beardstown, and farmed again for Richard Adkins for six years prior to retirement. He was a member of the Virginia Church of Christ and had attended woodworking classes. He enjoyed gardening and remodeling his home.
