Walter Mort W. Harper, 97, of Lacon passed away, Friday, April 8, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria of natural causes. Walter was born February 3, 1914 in Lostant to Luther Clyde and Blanche M. (Barr) Harper. He married his one and only sweetheart Mary Francis Lopeman on April 12, 1959 in Sparland, IL.

She passed away June 25, 1972. He worked as a wool processor in the Lacon Woolin Mill and then as a janitor for Catapiller for many years. He was a Deacon for several years at Averyville Baptist Church and also at North Chillicothe Baptist Church. He was a current member of First Baptist Church of Sparland, IL. One of his special achievements was living to the golden age of 97 and his favorite quote was work never hurt anyone.

He is survived by his children, Dena (Neil) Umphress of Rutland, David Harper of Lacon, Jean (Scott) Blair of Rutland and Joseph Harper of Lacon,; 9 grandchildren, Brian Haycraft, Dawn Haycraft, Charles Haycraft, Amber Harper, Cameron Harper, Sonja Cusac, Neil Umphress, Robert Umphress, and Jesse Umphress; 7 great grandchildren, Kyla, Sydney and Emma Cusac, Jorden and Ava Umpress and Jerimah and Dylan Haycraft and special friends Patricia Meister, Bonnie McElhiney and devoted companion Pup Dog. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Francis, a brother Glenn Harper and a sister Ruth Breckenridge.
