POLAND – Walter S. Makoski (formerly of Greenford), age 92, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born March 31, 1925 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Alex and Mary (Bawolski) Makoski.

He is survived by two sons, Mark S. (Cheryl) Makoski of Poland and Randy J. (Marcia) Makoski of Rochester, New York; five grandchildren, Molly (Luke), Calie (Louis), Lily (Alex), Andrew (Samantha) and Samuel; five great grandchildren, Beau, Micah, Christian, Nathaniel and Elliot; and his companion and friend Doris Lockshaw.

His wife, Lois (Erich) Makoski, whom he married September 27, 1947, preceded him in death on July 25, 1991. Also preceding him in death is his granddaughter Meghan; four sisters and three brothers.

Walter was employed as building and grounds superintendent for the South Range Schools for 16 years, retiring April 1990. He was a truck driver for the Panelmatic Co. in Youngstown, Ohio, a retired member of the Greenford Fire Department, as well as holding many other jobs throughout his lifetime. He was also a member of the Greenford Christian Church for more than 60 years, where he served as Board Chairman, Chairman of the Trustees, Elder, Deacon, multiple building committees, member of the choir and also director for C.T.M. (Christian Training Ministries) for more than 20 years. Walter served in the U.S. Marine Military Police Corps. During , attended Honolulu Police School and worked with the Oahu Police and Highway Department.
